About the Conference
Delivering on sustainable development is about more than ticking the boxes of the 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs). Taking the EU and the world on a sustainable path requires a change of perspective, turning risks into opportunities, and rethinking some of the key systems that underpin the way we live and work.
Where does Europe stand and what are the key challenges and paradoxes it faces? What are best practices and areas for improvement? Which policies and initiatives are already delivering and where is further action required to implement a shift to a more sustainable socio-economic model?
Sustainable Europe 2030: Think Pieces
The Conference took place on Monday, 8 April 2019, from 09h00 to 17h00, in the Charlemagne Building, 170, rue de la Loi, Brussels, gathering around 1000 participants. It followed the publication of the recent European Commission Reflection Paper ‘Towards a Sustainable Europe by 2030’, and gathered leading experts from around the world to discuss how to best translate the United Nations’ Sustainable Development Goals at European level. Given the wide array of issues covered throughout the conference, we have set out to capture some of the valuable insights of our guests in a short collection of forward-looking essays.
