How can we improve the legacy of major city events and conferences?

The challenge

Glasgow, like many other cities worldwide, plays host to a wide range of major events and conferences every year. From pop concerts to the European Championships - and countless industry trade shows -, there's never a dull day in the post-industrial city.

Putting on these events and making sure they attract global and local audiences alike calls for a tremendous amount of resources: from the infrastructure needed to support stages and exhibits, to the food and drinks required to feed the masses.

While these events and conferences are beneficial for local business, it is often short-lived and can be limited in terms of creating a legacy of

The opportunity

From edible cutlery and modular construction to repurposed colosseums - the opportunities are endless for the circular economy to improve the legacy of major world and city events.

Many local businesses, and specifically small to medium-sized enterprises throughout the city, are involved in producing these events, playing the role of vendors, valets, and clean-up crews, working tirelessly to make them a success. They provide transportation services to incoming visitors to the city; help design, build, disassemble, and dispose of temporary exhibits and structures; and get rid of the staggering amount of waste that a lot of these events leave behind.

How can we empower these local businesses to drive change and improve the legacy of these events?

Everyone is welcome to submit their ideas to this online challenge and we value all insights- wherever you are in the world!

Our panel of circular economy and industry experts will be there to guide you shape and refine your ideas along the way.

Your insights might come in extra handy if you're involved in the production of events and conferences, have experience providing transportation services to visitors, help design, build, disassemble, and dispose of temporary exhibits and structures or if you work in the following industries:
