Most MEPs vote to scrap call for scrutiny on allowances

More than three-quarters of the European Parliament's members voted on Wednesday to weaken a call for greater scrutiny on themselves. An amendment which deletes an appeal for more transparency on how MEP offices spend their allowances, was adopted with 576 votes in favour, 74 against, and 48 abstentions.
