EP Conference of Presidents endorses Mario Monti as chair of High Level Group on Own Resources - Hoofdinhoud

The European Parliament Conference of Presidents -- the EP president and political group leaders -- decided on Thursday in Brussels to support Mario Monti i as chairman of the new High Level Group on Own Resources which will examine how the European Union should be financed in future. The High-Level Group will consist of representatives of the European Parliament, Commission and Council.

Martin Schulz i, President of the European Parliament, said: "The High Level Group on Own Resources is a political priority for the European Parliament. Mario Monti has listened carefully to the European Parliament's main concerns on the future financing of the Union and I expect the detailed work of the group to get under way quickly. The current way in which the EU is financed can be considerably improved."
