High Level Conference “Climate Change - New Economic Models”

The high level conference on “Climate Change - New Economic Models”, organised under the Portuguese Presidency of the Council of the European Union, will be held on Friday, 26 February, at 09h00 (Lisbon time).

Taking part in this international conference will be 17 specialists and authors, who will be discussing the importance of the new economic models in the fight against climate change, including the circular economy and bioeconomy. Economist and professor at University College London, Mariana Mazzucato, will be the keynote speaker at the event. Other speakers include Peter Bakker, president and CEO of the World Business Council for Sustainable Development, Christian Patermann, international specialist in bioeconomics, and writer Mia Couto.

Prime Minister António Costa i and the Executive Vice-President of the European Commission, Frans Timmermans i, will make the opening address. The closing address will come from the Ministers for the Environment from the countries making up the trio presidency: Svenja Schulze, German Minister for the Environment, Nature Conservation and Nuclear Safety, Andrej Vizjak, Slovenian Minister for the Environment and Spatial Planning, and João Pedro Matos Fernandes, Portuguese Minister for the Environment and Climate Action.
