Speech by President von der Leyen to the Global Forum of Local Governments on the New European Bauhaus - Hoofdinhoud

Dear Mayors, Representatives of European local governments.

Thank you, Mayor Espadas, for inviting me. It is a pleasure to participate in your event. I was very happy, when I learned about your interest in the New European Bauhaus. A project very dear to my heart.

This pandemic changes the way we live and work. It changes our perspective on many things. But in every crisis also lies an opportunity.

The pandemic is an opportunity to rethink how we want to live together and how we want to deal with nature. We have to better respect the boundaries of our planet. Tackling climate change and caring for our environment requires us to rethink the way we live.

That is why the EU has made the European Green Deal a priority.

The New European Bauhaus movement, is intended to be a bridge.
