The first Canada-European Union (EU) Comprehensive Economic and Trade Agreement (CETA) Regulatory Cooperation Forum (RCF) will take place on Friday 14 December 2018 in Brussels, Belgium.

The agenda of the RCF will be published on DG Trade’s website and on the Global Affairs Canada website ahead of the meeting. Following this meeting, Canadian and EU co-chairs will provide a debrief to stakeholders.

Both Canada and the European Commission (EC) have carried out consultations with stakeholders to identify areas where there is interest in regulatory cooperation between Canada and the EU. The results of EC consultations can be found here. The results of Canada’s consultation can be found here.

Who should attend this session?

Non-governmental organisations, consumers associations, workers/trade unions, professional organisations, industry and business associations, companies, regional/local representatives and other stakeholders from either Canada or the EU.

  • For individuals who wish to participate in person, please complete the form by Friday 7 December 2018, end of day.
  • Please include your email address in order to receive a confirmation email of your registration, including venue details. Please present the confirmation email to security upon arrival at the venue. Access to the venue will only be possible for registered participants.
  • Due to limited space, registration for this event is on a first come, first served basis.

Remote participation

A video conference option will be provided for individuals wishing to participate remotely. EU stakeholders who wish to participate remotely should send their name and organisation to TRADE-E1-US-CANADA-EVENTS@ec.europa.eu by Friday 7 December 2018, end of day. Please state in your message that you intend to participate remotely.

Europese Commissie (EC)

Deze instelling van de Europese Unie kan worden beschouwd als het 'dagelijks bestuur' van de EU. De leden van de Europese Commissie worden 'Eurocommissarissen i' genoemd. Elke Eurocommissaris is verantwoordelijk voor één of meerdere beleidsgebieden. Momenteel zijn er 26 Eurocommissarissen. In principe is er voor iedere lidstaat één. Samen vormen zij het college van Eurocommissarissen. De Eurocommissarissen moeten het belang van de Europese Unie als geheel behartigen, niet dat van hun eigen land.

De Europese Commissie mag als enige EU-instelling wetsvoorstellen indienen; zij heeft het zogenaamde recht van initatief. Daarnaast controleert de Commissie of de Europese wetgeving juist wordt toegepast in de lidstaten, onderhandelt zij in internationale organisaties als de Wereldhandelsorganisatie (WTO) i over de handel van de Unie met het 'buitenland' en is zij verantwoordelijk voor het beheer van de Europese begroting van ongeveer 140 miljard euro per jaar.
