2018 PES Congress.
The XI PES Congress will take place on 7-8 December in Lisbon, Portugal. Hundreds of delegates from the PES Member parties across Europe will gather to debate key issues ahead of the 2019 European elections and to acclaim the PES Common Candidate, Frans Timmermans.

Events at Congress
The Congress will approve eight resolutions addressing key issues facing Europe today. These resolutions will form the basis of the PES manifesto for the 2019 European elections:
For a Europe of gender equality and empowered women
Progressive economy
Social Europe
A healthy environment and food, green growth and modern industries
For a stronger democracy in Europe
For fair and progressive asylum and migration policies that work for all
Empowering youth
For a fair, sustainable, peaceful and prosperous world
As in previous years, activists and organisations from the social democratic family will make a big contribute to Congress.

De Partij van Europese Sociaal-Democraten (PES) is de overkoepelende partij van Europese sociaaldemocratische partijen. Bij de PES zijn behalve de Nederlandse PvdA i onder meer de Duitse Sozialdemokratische Partei Deutschlands (SPD), de Franse Parti Socialiste (PS) en de Italiaanse Partito Socialista Italiano aangesloten. Bij de PES zijn ook partijen aangesloten uit onder meer Noorwegen, Servië en Turkije.
Van 1979 tot en met 2009 was de PES een zelfstandige fractie in het Europees Parlement. In 2009 gingen de aangesloten partijen op in de fractie Progressieve Alliantie van Socialisten en Democraten i (S&D). Naast het parlement opereert de PES ook in het Europees Comité van de Regio's i en de Raad. De huidige leider van de partij is de Bulgaarse oud premier Sergei Stanishev. Tijdens de Europese verkiezingen van 2019 werd Frans Timmermans als de gedeelde kandidaat van PES naar voren geschoven.
