Lunchtime Debate on the EU-Japan Economic Partnership Agreement

Japan is playing a critically important role in the East Asia region as a central actor among many different and not necessarily easy neighbours. Under Prime Minister Abe, the country is strengthening its outreach as an anchor of stability in the East, now that he has managed to bring Japan back on track politically and economically.

Japan and the EU have a long and well established relationship and are important trading partners. The two have undertaken to further strengthen their trade relationship through an Economic Partnership Agreement, on which negotiations were finalised by the end of 2017.

The purpose of this seminar is to discuss the EU-Japanese relationship in light of the imminent Economic Partnership Agreement. It should explore the scope of the agreement and its implications.
