New rules on funding European political parties - Hoofdinhoud

On 21 November, the AFCO Committee voted on the revision of the Regulation on the statute and funding of European political parties and European political foundations (Co-rapporteurs: Mercedes Bresso (S&D) and Rainer Wieland (EPP)). Since January this year, the Committee has been requesting a revision of Regulation (EU, Euratom) No. 1141/2014 as a matter of urgency. The main objectives of the reform are: to prevent abuses resulting from situations where MEPs, MPs or national parties support more than one European political party; to increase the proportionality of the EU funding to the representation of the European Parliament; and to enhance the transparency of funding by lowering co-financing required from the political parties.
