Friday 8 - Saturday 9 July: NATO summit and EU-US leaders’ meeting in Warsaw

The news:

On Friday 8 and Saturday 9 July, Poland will host the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) summit. European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker, European Council President Donald Tusk and High Representative/Vice-President Federica Mogherini will represent the European Union at the summit.

In the margins of the summit, President Juncker and President Tusk will meet US President Barack Obama for an EU-US leaders' meeting. This meeting will provide an opportunity to underline transatlantic unity and to discuss common political, economic and international security challenges.

The background:

There have been 26 NATO summits since 1949. The last one took place on 4-5 September 2014 in the United Kingdom. These meetings are attended by the heads of state and government of NATO members and chaired by NATO's Secretary General. The EU is regularly invited to attend these summits.
