Today, the European Commission appointed Rudolf Strohmeier as Director-General of the Publications Office of the European Union as of 1 May. Mr Strohmeier, a German national, is currently Deputy Director-General in the European Commission's department for Research and Innovation (DG RTD).

Mr Strohmeier brings more than thirty years of experience in the Commission to his new job. This includes strong management skills - notably as a top manager in his current assignment since 2010 - and solid expertise in a number of important Commission policies. His previous assignments include heading the private office of Commissioner Vivianne Reding, then in charge of Information Society and Media, for five years and serving as a Director in the Commission's Agriculture and Rural Development department (DG AGRI). Mr Strohmeier also served as Adviser in the private office of former Commission President Romano Prodi, as Deputy Head of Agriculture Commissioner Franz Fischler's private office and in the private office of Commissioner Peter Schmidhuber (budget, economic affairs).

The Publications Office is an inter-institutional body in charge of publishing the Official Journal of the European Union and other print and multimedia publications. The Management Board of the Publications Office gave its unanimous favourable opinion to this appointment.
