Last week, ALDE Party President Sir Graham Watson and ALDE Party Vice President and LI President of Honour Hans van Baalen MEP visited Kiev together to investigate potential party-political co-operation. Meetings included Rada Speaker Volodymyr Groissman and with representatives of President Petro Poroshenko and of Prime Minister Arsenyi Yatsenyuk political blocks.

They also met with Mykola Katerynchuk, leader of ALDE member party European Party of Ukraine as well as Samopomich (Self Reliance) of the Mayor of Lviv Andriy Sadovyi, Volia (Free Will) and Syla Lyudey (Power of People), UDAR Party of the Mayor of Kyiv Vitali Klitischko and the Fatherland Party of Yulia Tymoshenko.

The Friedrich Naumann Foundation for Freedom also facilitated exchange of views with former Foreign Ministers Boris Tarashiuk and Volodymyr Ohryzko and former Defence Minister Anatoliy Grytsenko, journalists and academic experts. Also the contacts with the Future of Ukraine Party UM (LI Observer Party) were strengthened.

European Liberals will continue to give priority to Ukraine and the strengthening of ties with political actors. In view of renewed fighting in Eastern Ukraine, the EU in general and European Liberals in particular must invest considerable resources to help stabilising the situation and find lasting solutions.
