Over the last few months developments in Turkish foreign policy have repeatedly captured global attention. This includes the Idlib crisis, Turkey-Russia cooperation and Turkey’s Syria policy more broadly, along with the recent migration crisis at the Turkey-Greek border and Turkey’s strained relations with the EU and the US. In parallel there have been important developments in domestic politics especially the establishment of two new political parties by former Justice and Development Party (AKP) heavyweights former Prime Minister Ahmet Davutoglu and former Economy Minister Ali Babacan. Coming at a time when support for the AKP and President Erdogan is eroding, not least due to economic malaise, this represents an opportunity to shift the political balance in the country.

This on-line Briefing offers an insight into the key priorities and challenges facing Turkish foreign and domestic policy, including likely scenarios for Idlib, the future of the EU-Turkey migration deal and the possible impact of the new political parties in Turkey.
