Contents
Coreper bestaat uit de permanente vertegenwoordigers (ambassadeurs) die de belangen van hun lidstaten in Brussel bewaken. Deze permanente vertegenwoordigers bereiden de vergaderingen van de verschillende formaties van de Raad van Ministers i voor, en stellen de agenda's vast. Uitzondering hierop zijn de landbouwaangelegenheden, die onder het Speciaal Comité voor de Landbouw (SCL) vallen.
In Coreper onderhandelen de lidstaten over voorstellen die te politiek beladen of te belangrijk zijn om op lager niveau in raadswerkgroepen i tot overeenstemming te komen, maar weer niet zo controversieel of belangrijk zijn dat ze alleen op hoger niveau in de Raad van Ministers moeten worden besproken.
