The European Union is offering a peer-to-peer training under the EaSI Technical Assistance programme.

The training course is offered to the microfinance institution Finklusiv Danmark to visit microStart. The training will take place at the premises of microStart in Brussels and Gent, Belgium, on 9-10 December 2019.

The peer-to-peer training is organised at the request of Finklusiv Danmark, an institution recently founded in Denmark that aims at developing the first inclusive financial solution for micro business owners, specifically refugees, in Denmark. In addition to offering inclusive financial services, Finklusiv Danmark will aim at providing technical assistance to eligible participants by matching them to a voluntary mentor and by offering trainings in financial literacy.

Objectives

The Finklusiv Danmark's representatives will visit microStart - a microfinance institution providing access to finance for refugee entrepreneurs or business owners, in order to draw from their experience. The key objective for the participants will be to learn about microStart’s overall activities and history, with a particular focus on procedures of Anti Money Laundering (AML) and Know Your Customer (KYC) requirements. The participants will also learn about the scoring mechanism, risk management and selection criteria used by microStart. In addition, they will be introduced to the training services, which microStart offers to its refugee business-owner clients.

Background

microStart is an organisation providing microfinance in Belgium. It is composed of a social cooperative and a non-profit organisation that provide small loans to people who want to start a small business or develop a business they have already started. In addition, microStart provides support to its clients in the form of training and coaching, mainly provided by experienced volunteers.

Other European microfinance providers, either selected as EaSI Technical Assistance beneficiaries or interested in applying for the programme can contact the EaSI Technical Assistance secretariat to receive more information about these events, as well as to request the participation in or organisation of similar events.
