Nearly 2000 Sofia residents, guests of the capital and foreigners participated in the Open Doors Day at the National Palace of Culture, the home of the Bulgarian Presidency of the Council of the EU.

The visitors toured the halls where over 20,000 delegates have met during the last five months. They saw the emblematic Hall 3, where EU leaders and partners from the Western Balkans were sitting around the table during the EU-Western Balkans summit. The small and large guests learned more about the role of the rotating presidency of the Council of the EU, the work of the Council, the important events of the calendar of the Bulgarian presidency and the numerous works of art inside the National Palace of Culture, which was built in honor of the 1300th anniversary of the founding of the first Bulgarian state.

Young children, students from Sofia and around the country, their parents, elderly people over 90, guests from Britain, Denmark and Italy, and many others availed themselves of the opportunity to discover the National Palace of Culture and plunge into the atmosphere of the Bulgarian Presidency. Their guides were officials from the Ministry for the Bulgarian Presidency, who told them about how the meetings of the Presidency calendar are organised. Visitors also took a "family photo", an obligatory part of every event of the highest category. Finally, shortly before they left with lots of impressions, all guests received a gift in the form of information materials about the European Union and souvenirs.
