Hearing for Commissioner-designate Gabriel for Digital Economy and Society

A public hearing for Bulgarian Commissioner-designate Mariya Gabriel i takes place on Tuesday 21 June at 15.00-18.00.

Commissioner-designate Gabriel, nominated by the Commission President to take over the responsibility for the Digital Economy and Society portfolio, will be quizzed by MEPs across several committees to assess her skills. Parliament will vote in July whether to approve her taking office or not.

The hearing will be led by the Industry, Research and Energy (ITRE) and Culture and Education (CULT) committees. Internal Market, Legal Affairs and Civil Liberties committees are also involved in the discussion.

Next steps

ITRE and CULT coordinators will meet on Wednesday 21 June to assess the hearing so that, respective chairs Jerzy Buzek i and Petra Kammerevert i will be able to inform the President of Parliament on the results of the hearing.
