Wednesday 12 April: Commission invites interested parties to Stakeholder Forum on the European Solidarity Corps - Hoofdinhoud

The news:

The European Solidarity Corps is taking shape. So far 24,000 young Europeans have registered to engage in solidarity activities across Europe, and authorised organisations can now access the database and look for suitable candidates for their projects. Several hundred places will be available as of spring, with thousands more to follow in the months ahead.

In parallel, the Commission is preparing a legislative proposal for adoption in the first half of 2017 to create a dedicated legal base for the European Solidarity Corps. As part of this process, the Commission has launched both a public consultation as well as targeted consultations with key stakeholders involved in youth work in the EU.

To round up the consultation process on the future shape of the European Solidarity Corps the Commission is now inviting interested parties such as MEPs and Council representatives, youth organisations, representatives of national Erasmus+ agencies, employers and trade union representatives, and alumni volunteers to a Stakeholder Forum on 12 April 2017 in the Charlemagne building, Brussels.

The background:

During his 2016 State of the Union address, European Commission President Juncker announced his intention to step up efforts in support of youth. On 7 December 2016, the Commission launched the European Solidarity Corps. Young people between the ages of 18 and 30 can take part in a range of solidarity activities that address challenging situations across the EU. Participants will be able to engage in a broad range of activities such as education, health, social integration, assistance in the provision of food, shelter construction or prevention of natural disasters. Since its launch, more than 24,000 young Europeans have registered with the European Solidarity Corps - the objective is to have 100,000 young people joining by the end of 2020.
