Media advisory - Journalists' physical presence in Council press centre - Competitiveness Council of 28 and 29 September 2021

Source: Council of the European Union (Council) i, published on Wednesday, September 29 2021.

In light of the gradual relaxation of COVID-19 restrictions in Belgium and in accordance with the physical space available, the capacity of press venues and current social distancing rules, a limited number of journalists will be allowed to attend physically the following Council meetings taking place in Brussels:

  • Competitiveness Council (Research) of 28 September 2021, and
  • Competitiveness Council (Internal market and industry) of 29 September 2021

You are required to complete the registration form to manifest the interest to be physically present.

Access to the Council buildings cannot be granted without registration, by the following deadlines (please click on the specific event to access the respective form):

Should the number of requests exceed the number of available places to guarantee the respect of social distancing, a selection will be made to ensure geographical balance (representation of member states), allowing a broad coverage through the participation of large international media organisations and agencies, and giving any remaining place on a first-come-first-served basis.

Should there be a high demand for access to doorsteps in the Europa building Forum area, access could be limited and priority will be given to journalists. Stand-up positions will be available in the Atrium area of the Justus Lipsius building.

No confirmation mail will be sent. Only those media representatives that could not be admitted will be informed by e-mail.

To help us grant access to as many media representatives as possible, please inform the press centre immediately should you decide not to attend in person, via mail to [email protected].

The press conferences on 28 and 29 September will remain accessible also in video conference (Zoom). Information to connect will be shared through the usual channels: instant messaging (Signal) or e-mail (for newly registered journalists).

Please note that the GSC needs to comply with the applicable Belgian rules. For these measures to be effective, media representatives' full cooperation and responsible individual conduct are essential and in particular:

  • ·
    keep a distance of at least 1.5 meters from other persons;
  • ·
    wash your hands regularly throughout the day;
  • ·
    wear a face mask
  • ·
    if you feel ill, please abstain from entering the GSC buildings.
