High-Level Forum for Sustainable Tourism - Main contents

The High-Level Forum for Sustainable Tourism will take place in Porto on Friday, 14 May at 09h00 (local time).

The Portuguese Minister of State for the Economy and the Digital Transition, Pedro Siza Vieira, the European Commissioner for the Internal Market, Thierry Breton, the European Commissioner for Cohesion and Reforms, Elisa Ferreira, and the European Commissioner for the Environment, Oceans and Fisheries, Virginijus Sinkevičius, will take part in the opening session.

The High-Level Forum for Sustainable Tourism will be discussing the future of the sector and will be divided into three panel discussions: on competencies, the digital transition and innovation and territorial cohesion and social inclusion, from the perspective of sustainability. There will also be a plenary session with international organisations.

The forum sessions will focus on issues such as employee qualification needs, the challenges of education and training and the contributions of innovation and the digital transformation to dealing with the challenges of sustainability, as well as the challenges for a green transition in tourism, in territorial cohesion and in social inclusion.

Both the panel discussions and the plenary session will take place in the morning. They are open to the public and can be watched here.

In the afternoon, the conclusions of the discussions will be presented at the meeting of European Union Tourism Ministers. The 27 Member States will also be discussing a medium to long-term strategic vision, according to the concept of sustainable tourism and including the implementation of instruments like the EU Agenda for Tourism 2030/2050.
