Commissioner Phil Hogan will be visiting Japan in May 2019, accompanied by a business delegation of senior representatives from the European agri-food sector. The purpose of this visit is to facilitate European agricultural food and beverage exports to benefit from the favourable outcome of the EPA EU - Japan, which entered into force on 1 February 2019.

Meets Takamori Yoshikawa, Minister of Agriculture Forestry and Fisheries of Japan; and meets with leading agri-food professionals, importers, traders and retailers in the region.

The objective of the business delegation visit is to give the opportunity to the accompanying European producers’ representatives to meet potential partners from the local agri-food sector. The programme of activities for the business delegates will include seminars on the characteristics of the local market and consumer trends, retail and site visits and networking opportunities. The programme of activities for the business delegates will take place in Tokyo from 08 to 11 May 2019. The costs for flights and hotels have to be covered by participants but all business events from the official programme will be offered free of charge.

Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency (CHAFEA)

Consumers, Health, Agriculture and Food Executive Agency was a successor to the Executive Agency for Health and Consumers (EAHC), and has in turn been replaced by the Health and Digital Executive Agency (HaDEA).

CHAFEA carried out duties assigned to it by the European Commission's Directorate-General for Health and Food Safety. It manages relations with some 2800 beneficiaries and contractors working on nearly 400 projects/service contracts in the fields of health, consumer protection and food safety. It has about 50 staff members based in Luxembourg.
