Wednesday 12 April: The Commission will publish a Communication on priority actions needed to reinforce the protection of all children in migration

The news:

On 12 April 2017, the European Commission will present actions that should be taken as a priority to reinforce the protection of all children in migration.

The background:

In the context of the migration crisis, the number of child migrants arriving in Europe has increased significantly. Across 2015 and 2016, 30 percent of asylum applicants in the EU were children. In order to address the high risks of violence, trafficking or exploitation which children are particularly exposed to and to fully implement the child's best interests, the Commission adopted its Action Plan on Unaccompanied Minors (2010 - 2014) on 6 May to 2010

This Communication follows up on this Action Plan as well as on the European Agenda on Migration and the Communication on the State of Play of Implementation of the Priority Actions under the European Agenda on Migration.
