History

The Council configuration on Agriculture and Fisheries is a merger of the former seperate Agriculture Council and Fisheries Council. The Agriculture Council was one of the oldest configurations of the EU, alongside the Council of General Affairs, the Council on Foreign Affairs and the Council on Economic Affairs. Since 1960, the Agricultural Council deals with the Common Agricultural Policy. The Fisheries Council was admitted to the Common Fisheries Policy in 1983, eventhough the first measures in this sector were already formulated back in 1970.
